Looking to have your employees connect in a meaningful way?
Volunteering as a company is a great way to bring your employees together and give back to the community. Aside from just benefitting your organization, encouraging your co-workers to participate in charitable acts also benefits nonprofits, community organizations, and our society. Here are some thoughts from our nonprofit partner [Jersey Cares](http://www.jerseycares.org)on how corporate volunteerism impacts these groups:

**How does corporate volunteerism impact nonprofits and community organizations?**

- Nonprofits rely on volunteers to help fulfill their missions – the more available hands, the bigger the impact!
- The value of a volunteer hour is estimated to be $29.95 according to a [report](https://independentsector.org/resource/value-of-volunteer-time/)by the Do Good Institute. Corporations can bring thousands of dollars’ worth of volunteer time to their nonprofit partners through formal volunteer programs!
- Corporate partnerships help spread awareness about issues in our communities and how nonprofits are trying to solve them.

**How does corporate volunteerism impact society?**

- Corporations have a role in volunteerism just like individuals, organizations, and governments. Surveys conducted by the [2022 Edelman Trust Barometer](https://www.edelman.com/trust/2022-trust-barometer) show that people want businesses to be more involved in addressing societal issues – even more so than government or NGOs.
- Corporate volunteerism helps to create a more empathetic and collaborative society and allows individuals to step outside of their comfort zones to understand the challenges of the communities around them.
- Many are first introduced to formal volunteerism through their employer, so corporations are in a unique position to excite and equip their employees to serve their communities.

**How can corporate volunteerism impact your company?**

- An employee volunteer program helps to recruit and retain employees. As the younger generation of workers are searching for jobs, they’re more likely to work for companies that are socially responsible.
- Volunteering helps employees develop skills like problem solving, time management, communication, and collaboration. When co-workers are able to spend time away from their desks and participate in meaningful service, they’re more likely to make personal connections with their colleagues and build stronger relationships.
- Consumers want companies to address issues in our communities now more than ever and are more confident in companies that are socially responsible versus those who are not. According to [Philanthropy.com](https://www.philanthropy.com/article/71-of-u-s-consumers-want-socially-responsible-companies/#:~:text=71%25%20of%20U.S.%20Consumers%20Want%20%E2%80%98Socially%20Responsible%E2%80%99%20Companies), 71% of U.S. consumers want “socially responsible companies.”

**How can Jersey Cares help your company build a volunteer program?**
