When Should You Start Planning Your Company Holiday Party?

It's not time to pull out the garland and start decorating. It's not time to start shopping for holiday gifts for your friends and family. But trust us, there is one thing that you should start holiday planning now: your company holiday party. Here's why.

Like most people, we're cautious of not rushing headfirst into the holiday season prematurely. We want to enjoy apple picking in the crisp fall air, cute trick-or-treaters in their costumes, and gathering around the table for Thanksgiving dinner. So, we're not advocating that we skip all that good stuff.

We're just saying... there are so many good reasons to start planning your company holiday party now. 

1. Avoid the stress of last-minute planning.

You've already got tons of stuff to do, especially around the holidays and as the year comes to a close. The last thing you need is the additional burden of unhelpful stress added to your plate. If you start planning now, you get a running head start on the process and can take your time with each step. You can research the activities you might enjoy. You won't have to nag your finance team to get the check cut in a rush. You might even have time to put your feet up!

2. Get the best date, time, and entertainment.

It's no surprise... December is a big month for company holiday parties. So, if you want to plan and execute a great event, you might be competing with dozens of other customers to book the best time slot and activities. Why risk it? Start planning now, select your date, book your entertainment, and then — as other companies scramble with the leftovers — see the rest of your event snap into place like magic.

3. Save time for your other last-minute planning.

Even if you're not usually a procrastinator, the end of the year often has a way of adding some new challenges and opportunities. You already know your company's going to have a virtual holiday party, right? So if you start with that  planning now, you will free yourself up to deal with those other last-minute opportunities. We can't overstate this one. We're not saying you need to plan your entire event right this very moment. All you have to do is start the process. Just take ONE step. Reach out to a vendor/partner who you think might have some fun, unique, memorable activities for your special event. Or maybe just survey your team to see what they've enjoyed this year, or what they might want to do for the holiday party this year.
